The arts are a sacred vehicle for transformation. My intention is to inspire you through the beauty, courage, and power of our collaborative artistic expression. I want you to ask yourself, “Who is my Hildegard?” “How can I use the arts to transform my life?” “How am I a feather on the breath of God?”
- Jeannine Goode-Allen
Feathers on the Breath of God is a theatrical, musical and visual performance that illuminates my journey to wholeness as an artist living in the 21st century, inspired by the life and work of the 12th-century mystic Hildegard of Bingen.
The Gifts of Feathers On The Breath Of God
A call to you to express yourself artistically in your daily life.
An encouragement to you to break through your cultural and personal constraints.
A demonstration of how connecting to the Wisdom of those who have lived before you can bring strength, connection, and peace.
An encouragement to explore the healing power of the natural world.
A reminder that your connection to the spiritual world is possible and truly the only source of peace.
An example of the powerful and beautiful connection of the trinity of art, science, and theology.
Using Hildegard’s songs, writings, and illuminations, the piece explores how my connection to Hildegard’s power gave me the strength to transform. Hildegard and I weave our journeys together on the stage, uniting Hindu, Celtic, Medieval, and Modern elements.
It could be that you had never heard of Hildegard of Bingen before. And so I created Hildegard’s Journey Through The Senses: A Traveling Exhibit for you to experience Hildegard’s world on a sensual level before the performance begins. The interactive exhibit features the sights, sounds, smells, and essence of Hildegard’s life and work. I commissioned talented local artists to create pieces that embody the beauty, warmth, and power that is the life and work of Hildegard of Bingen.
The exhibit includes banners, calligraphy, stained glass, models, charcoal drawings, antique maps, wax tablets, and paintings. Some of Hildegard’s healing remedies, including the heart wine that I used to help heal my own heart, are available for you to sample. You will also be able to smell and touch some of the herbs Hildegard used in her healing remedies.
Four composers came together to create the music for Feathers On The Breath Of God. In creating this music, Hildegard, myself, David Sharp and Gary Grundei shared a journey that was full of miracles. We are an inspired quartet. Hindu, Celtic, Medieval, Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Rock and Experimental influences radiate through our soundtracks, woven together to illustrate the timelessness of our personal journeys.
Feathers On The Breath Of God shows how tap dancing can be a form of meditation. For myself, tapping is letting God speak through my feet. My feet are communicating what God is about, letting my soul speak down and through my legs and feet.
There are three Spirit Guides in Feathers On The Breath Of God. They are: The Elephant: Remover of Obstacles, The Eagle: Bringer of Vision, and The Snake: Provider of Acceptance.
During the performance you will see a spiral staircase evolving, incorporating natural elements of wood, water and gold. A pillar of willow branches holds the Sun that Hildegard lights up as the piece begins. Six periaktoi (triangular columns on wheels) grace the stage. They bring my paintings to life and also house two widescreen televisions!
At times I portray Hildegard on stage. At times you will see Hildegard coming through a television screen. Through modern technology, you will see how two women born 900 years apart can meet. Three enormous screens and rear projection of powerful and beautiful photographs and video footage surround the story on stage.
Each scene begins at the desk of Hildegard and Jeannine, which both unites and separates the 12th and 21st centuries (wax tablets and Mac included)! Complex yet unobtrusive, Feathers On The Breath Of Goduses lighting to remove separation between myself (the artist) and you (the audience). This creates a direct, personal experience.

Making of Feathers On The Breath Of God: The Documentary
The production of Feathers On The Breath Of God was the result of the coming together of a large group of extraordinary people. Each one of them is a treasure. I created a documentary called The Making of Feathers On The Breath Of God showing the journey of these precious people as we created this performance piece. Our hope is that you will be inspired by this documentary to find your own Hildegard and to create your own masterpieces.
