Chanting the Wisdom Traditions, July 23 – July 27, 2018, Fox Institute
Dear Viriditas Community,
St Hildegard Class at the Fox Institute
Viriditas sure was flowing last week in my classroom at the Fox Institute! What a blessing to be able to share the Wisdom of decades of my life’s work with the students that were called to this class. I marveled at the art work the students created, especially the final project which was to create “their own Rupertsberg”. (Photo: Jeannine with model of Rupertsberg and St. Hildegard stained glass.)
“What is Rupertsberg?” you ask. Well, when St. Hildegard was in her late forties, she heard a call from the Divine to set up her own abbey. She did just that, taking many years to build it on the banks of the Nahe and Rhein rivers in Germany. She called it Rupertsberg, naming it after Saint Rupert, a celtic monk she felt very close to.
On the final day of our class the students created models of a structure of what they needed to enable them to manifest God’s will for them (their soul’s purpose) in the world. One student created a model of a theater company, another an animal sanctuary and another a sacred man’s cave. One student even created a model of her version of the Universe!
Midweek I taught the class how to sing St. Hildegard’s Kyrie, and then we learned a dance to accompany the singing. I invited the students to incorporate this St. Hildegard Body Prayer into their spiritual practice going forward. To learn more about Body Prayer check out this week’s blog post on the Doctorofthesoul website!
The FREE Tap into Your Soul event held at the Fox Institute a couple weeks ago attracted folks from age 9 – 83, most who were tapping for the first time. What fun! The photo shows David and three of the participants, one of whom was our daughter Danea!
David taught the participants a few tap steps and how they can be used as a model of expression by the dancer. They danced to the song I Shall Not Be Moved and considered Where in life do you need to stand your ground? Where will you not be moved? They enjoyed varying the strength and power of the steps to explore more with this song. At the end of 1 ½ hours, people didn’t want to leave! Tap Dancing is such a glorious way to connect to the Divine.
Doctor of the Soul Events for 2018
Given my travel plans this summer, there will not be any group events for the time being. I’m still offering private sessions. Just call (720 308 6782) or email me (email@example.com) to set up a session. Remember I also do sessions over the phone or via skype if we can’t meet in person.
The Fox Institute of Creation Spirituality in Boulder
In addition to the July Intensive when David and I will be teaching Chanting Wisdom, FICS has an incredible line-up of summer intensives on the horizon. Each one offers the opportunity for enriching and enlightening experiences for all.
In June, the Summer Intensive #1, Sacred Space, Sacred Community will offer the following:
Integrating Creation Spirituality into Sacred Community, for the 21st Century – seminar with Sid Hall
In this course, we will explore what it means to create and sustain a community rooted in Creation Spirituality. We will look at core values and proven best practices that enable some of the existing Creation-Centered communities and churches in North America to thrive. This class will focus on two models: Launching a Creation-Centered community from scratch, and initiating a Creation-centered community within an established congregation.
Writing the Prayers of the Cosmos: Liberating Your Mystic Soul, art as meditation with Bruce Sanguin
How can our prayers and poetry reflect the new cosmology that science has revealed, and at the same time be a true reflection of our soul’s reverence, devotion and gratitude? Our liturgies need to reflect the cosmos as a sacred unfolding in space and time. In our time together, we will create a sacred space to allow the inspiration of the Great Mystery, the ancestors, and creation to be voiced through us.
Spirituality Transforming Public Service seminar with Pat Waak
This course will examine the issues of civil disobedience, civil discourse, and social action as tools to reframe political processes through the application of the principles of Creation Spirituality. Reviewing the history of social change movements, this seminar provides an opportunity for participants to reframe and recreate community that serves all of its citizens and to examine the possibilities of public service.
Banners of Hope and Peace: Painting and Stitching Your Prayers art as meditation with Barb Olson
Students will participate in fabric expressions of their own prayers. Each day will open with a focus on one of the elements of the Taoist Five Element theory with its associated color and trait. Students will be guided in daily Qi Gong practices that assist them to listen to their own inner voice and what wants to be expressed and/or released. They will create their own painted fabrics and symbols that aid in their personal expression.
Three more intensives will be offered in July and August, including the one David and I are teaching, Chanting Wisdom. Find out more here.
How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras
Are you interested in balancing your second chakra, the sacral chakra? Remember you have access to the audio of the mantra invoking Saraswati to heal the sacral chakra in my FREE Healing Library.
To deepen your work in this area, consider creating a Saraswati Garden for your altar.
Put some soil into a dish and plant a few small seeds. Water regularly and contemplate and witness the power of creation arising.
Remember that the Hindu goddess, Saraswati, can inspire your creativity in life. She supports human beings to ignite the seeds of creative expression within themselves and bring to form in beauty that which has not yet come to manifestation in the world. Whether it’s an idea, thought, dream, song, artistic piece or passion.
Sara meaning Essence, and Swa as One Self comes together as The Essence of One Self. In the word Saraswati the meaning becomes, “One who Leads to the Essence of One Self.”
Hold this thought as you witness the sprouting growth of the seeds on your altar.
My guidebook for all 7 chakras, How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras, is coming soon!
Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts presented by the Boulder Chorale
The Cotton Club Goes to Church with special guests Joslyn Ford-Keel, vocalist, and Dr. David Sharp, tap dancer
Oh my goodness, David’s performance this past weekend was SPECTACULAR. The joy that this man embodies when he dances is off the charts. You should have seen the grin on my face when he was dancing. Thanks to those of you who came to see his performance. It warmed my heart to see so many of you there, and I know David also greatly appreciated your support. David loved dancing with the power of the Boulder Chorale’s voices surrounding him. The jazz sextet was outstanding. David especially appreciated the excellence of their playing. The beauty of Joslyn Ford-Keel’s voice is still reverberating in my soul.
The Boulder Chorale is truly a great gift to this community. If you have never been to one of their concerts, I hope you will consider attending one of them next season. For those of you who were unable to attend, I filmed David’s performance and hope to have the video available for you to watch next week.
All right dear ones. In closing I want to encourage you all to spend lots of time outside this coming week. Here in Boulder, the sun is shining again after a few days of glorious rain fall. Oh my, are the birds happy this morning… and so am I!
PS Don’t miss the incredible summer offerings at the FICS. What an enriching way to spend a week or more this summer!
