Dear Viriditas Community,

St Hildegard Class at the Fox Institute

Viriditas sure was flowing last week in my classroom at the Fox Institute! What a blessing to be able to share the Wisdom of decades of my life’s work with the students that were called to this class. I marveled at the art work the students created, especially the final project which was to create “their own Rupertsberg”. (Photo: Jeannine with model of Rupertsberg and St. Hildegard stained glass.)

“What is Rupertsberg?” you ask. Well, when St. Hildegard was in her late forties, she heard a call from the Divine to set up her own abbey. She did just that, taking many years to build it on the banks of the Nahe and Rhein rivers in Germany. She called it Rupertsberg, naming it after Saint Rupert, a celtic monk she felt very close to.

On the final day of our class the students created models of a structure of what they needed to enable them to manifest God’s will for them (their soul’s purpose) in the world. One student created a model of a theater company, another an animal sanctuary and another a sacred man’s cave. One student even created a model of her version of the Universe!

Midweek I taught the class how to sing St. Hildegard’s Kyrie, and then we learned a dance to accompany the singing. I invited the students to incorporate this St. Hildegard Body Prayer into their spiritual practice going forward. To learn more about Body Prayer check out this week’s blog post on the Doctorofthesoul website!

The FREE Tap into Your Soul event held at the Fox Institute a couple weeks ago attracted folks from age 9 – 83, most who were tapping for the first time.  What fun!  The photo shows David and three of the participants, one of whom was our daughter Danea!

David taught the participants a few tap steps and how they can be used as a model of expression by the dancer. They danced to the song I Shall Not Be Moved and considered Where in life do you need to stand your ground?  Where will you not be moved?  They enjoyed varying the strength and power of the steps to explore more with this song.  At the end of 1 ½ hours, people didn’t want to leave! Tap Dancing is such a glorious way to connect to the Divine.

Doctor of the Soul Events for 2018

Given my travel plans this summer, there will not be any group events for the time being. I’m still offering private sessions.  Just call (720 308 6782) or email me (jeanninegoodeallen@gmail.com) to set up a session. Remember I also do sessions over the phone or via skype if we can’t meet in person.

The Fox Institute of Creation Spirituality in Boulder

In addition to the July Intensive when David and I will be teaching Chanting Wisdom, FICS has an incredible line-up of summer intensives on the horizon.  Each one offers the opportunity for enriching and enlightening experiences for all.

In June, the Summer Intensive #1, Sacred Space, Sacred Community will offer the following:

Integrating Creation Spirituality into Sacred Community, for the 21st Century –  seminar with Sid Hall

In this course, we will explore what it means to create and sustain a community rooted in Creation Spirituality. We will look at core values and proven best practices that enable some of the existing Creation-Centered communities and churches in North America to thrive. This class will focus on two models: Launching a Creation-Centered community from scratch, and initiating a Creation-centered community within an established congregation.

Writing the Prayers of the Cosmos: Liberating Your Mystic Soul, art as meditation with Bruce Sanguin

How can our prayers and poetry reflect the new cosmology that science has revealed, and at the same time be a true reflection of our soul’s reverence, devotion and gratitude? Our liturgies need to reflect the cosmos as a sacred unfolding in space and time. In our time together, we will create a sacred space to allow the inspiration of the Great Mystery, the ancestors, and creation to be voiced through us.

In July, Summer Intensive #2 The Hope of Political Transformation through Service and Art

Spirituality Transforming Public Service seminar with Pat Waak

This course will examine the issues of civil disobedience, civil discourse, and social action as tools to reframe political processes through the application of the principles of Creation Spirituality. Reviewing the history of social change movements, this seminar provides an opportunity for participants to reframe and recreate community that serves all of its citizens and to examine the possibilities of public service.

Banners of Hope and Peace: Painting and Stitching Your Prayers art as meditation with Barb Olson

Students will participate in fabric expressions of their own prayers. Each day will open with a focus on one of the elements of the Taoist Five Element theory with its associated color and trait. Students will be guided in daily Qi Gong practices that assist them to listen to their own inner voice and what wants to be expressed and/or released. They will create their own painted fabrics and symbols that aid in their personal expression.

Three more intensives will be offered in July and August, including the one David and I are teaching, Chanting Wisdom. Find out more here.

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

Are you interested in balancing your second chakra, the sacral chakra?  Remember you have access to the audio of the mantra invoking Saraswati to heal the sacral chakra in my FREE Healing Library.

To deepen your work in this area, consider creating a Saraswati Garden for your altar.

Put some soil into a dish and plant a few small seeds. Water regularly and contemplate and witness the power of creation arising.

Remember that the Hindu goddess, Saraswati, can inspire your creativity in life.  She supports human beings to ignite the seeds of creative expression within themselves and bring to form in beauty that which has not yet come to manifestation in the world.  Whether it’s an idea, thought, dream, song, artistic piece or passion.

Sara meaning Essence, and Swa as One Self comes together as The Essence of One Self.  In the word Saraswati the meaning becomes, “One who Leads to the Essence of One Self.”

Hold this thought as you witness the sprouting growth of the seeds on your altar.

My guidebook for all 7 chakras, How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras, is coming soon!

Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts presented by the Boulder Chorale

The Cotton Club Goes to Church with special guests Joslyn Ford-Keel, vocalist, and Dr. David Sharp, tap dancer

Oh my goodness, David’s performance this past weekend was SPECTACULAR. The joy that this man embodies when he dances is off the charts. You should have seen the grin on my face when he was dancing. Thanks to those of you who came to see his performance. It warmed my heart to see so many of you there, and I know David also greatly appreciated your support. David loved dancing with the power of the Boulder Chorale’s voices surrounding him. The jazz sextet was outstanding. David especially appreciated the excellence of their playing. The beauty of Joslyn Ford-Keel’s voice is still reverberating in my soul.

The Boulder Chorale is truly a great gift to this community. If you have never been to one of their concerts, I hope you will consider attending one of them next season. For those of you who were unable to attend, I filmed David’s performance and hope to have the video available for you to watch next week.

All right dear ones. In closing I want to encourage you all to spend lots of time outside this coming week. Here in Boulder, the sun is shining again after a few days of glorious rain fall. Oh my, are the birds happy this morning… and so am I!

In Viriditas,
Jeannine

PS Don’t miss the incredible summer offerings at the FICS. What an enriching way to spend a week or more this summer!

Dear Viriditas Community,

The lilacs are blooming! This morning as I walked out on to my front porch and smelled the fragrance of the lilacs, I rejoiced. Aaahhhhh…there is something about the glorious fragrance of lilacs that nourishes me and fills me with joy.
This is a wondrous time of year for me as I spend time in my garden, planting vegetables and creating magnificent flower pots. I hope you, too, are enjoying the beautiful sights and wondrous smells of our natural world.

What nourishes you? What fills you with joy?

Tap Dancing

We had a nourishing and joyous afternoon at our group event Unleash Your Creativity. The highlight was the tap dancing! After being inspired by watching film footage of the Nicholas Brothers as well as footage of David dancing when he was 25 (!) we enjoyed finding our own PIZZAZZ. Our group was having so much fun dancing…I think some of them would still be dancing downstairs if they could! One of David’s gifts as a teacher is how he is able to show people how to find their own unique expression, thus helping them look and feel fabulous!

David rehearsing a tap number for the Broadway show, “Oh Kay”

On the tap dancing front, David is performing with the Boulder Chorale on May 19th and 20th! This is going to be an unforgettable experience. David is dancing to Duke Ellington’s piece “David danced before the Lord”. This is going to be an opportunity for you to see David tap dance a seven minute solo. As I have experienced his preparations during the past few weeks, I can tell you that he is channeling the Divine through his feet. This is powerful my friends. I do believe that David is a very talented tap dancer, yes, but no tap dancer on the planet has the spiritual connection that David has. David is dancing for God. God is dancing through David for us and YOU CAN FEEL IT. You do not want to miss this! (Click here to purchase tickets.)

How do we connect to God? How do we receive divine nourishment and joy? As I have been preparing for the Hildegard class I will be teaching next week at the Fox Institute I have been pondering the ways that we may experience divine wisdom that guides us. I have always been powerfully inspired by the visions, or illuminations that St. Hildegard experienced and then wrote about. Interested in learning more about St. Hildegard’s experience as well as developing your spiritual practice to become more open to divine wisdom, check out my blog post this week on Being Open to Receive.

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

My last week has been personally challenging with several unexpected events and also excruciating nerve pain in my arm that resurfaced from a past injury.  It’s moments like these that I am so grateful for my spiritual practice of mantra chanting. This past week, I have regularly relied on the mantras for Ganesh for power and for Shiva to remind myself that all of life is a blessing.  Chanting these two mantras has given me tremendous strength and comfort, even as I journey around town to see specialists to look at my arm.

These Sanskrit mantras for the chakras are a spiritual treasure chest. Each mantra is a beautiful gem with its own unique healing properties. Once you integrate the mantras into your life as a spiritual practice, they can support you throughout your whole life.

My guidebook, How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras, will be available to you soon. In it, you will learn about these 7 gems including guidance on how to pronounce each mantra. I’ll explain the meaning of each one and why the sounds of each have healing potential.

Last call to join me for an immersion into Engaging Hildegard’s Music, Art and Herbs during the week of May 14th – May 18th!

Is there an area of your life where you are seeking healing and/or transformation? I will be guiding students in meditative practices using excerpts from St. Hildegard’s personal letters and medical writings. Immersed in the healing power of St. Hildegard’s writings, students will write a dialogue with St. Hildegard exploring an area of their own lives where they are seeking healing and/or transformation.

Give yourself the gift of connecting to this transformative community that is the Fox Institute!

The Hildegard class is now paired with the seminar: Deep Ecology and Theology of the Land taught by Marvin Anderson. Marvin is one of the most courageous and heart warming educators I know. You will love him. I myself will be taking his class as well as my sister, Nicole, who is flying in from New York City to join me for the entire week.

Register for this intensive today!

This five-day Intensive costs $1770. I have been gifted $550 scholarships available to new students (degree or lifelong learners). If you are interested in one of those scholarships, please contact me right away at 720-308-6782. I would love to have you join us!

Dr. Stuart C. Lord named the Interim President of the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality

The Fox Institute is stepping into its next phase of growth, and David and I are greatly looking forward to working with our new president! Here is the press release announcing this wonderful news. I invite you to read about this extraordinary man.

The Board of Directors of the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality recently announced the appointment of Dr. Stuart C. Lord as its Interim President who will step into his role starting on May 1, 2018.

“I am excited to work with the Fox Institute and am deeply committed to the marriage of Eastern and Western traditions so that, together, we may cultivate contemplation into action!”  Dr. Lord said. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to advance the mission of the Institute as we inspire courageous, transformative leadership in all of our students.”

Dr. Stuart C. Lord is an American educator and academic specializing in leadership and ethics, organizational development, diversity and inclusion, spirituality in education, and academic governance.

Currently, Lord serves as CEO of Delta Developmental, a firm in Boulder, CO, specializing in leadership development, curriculum design, organizational assessment, and consulting. In 2015, Dr. Lord was appointed Chief Deputy to the President of Wheelock College to advise the president and assist in the college’s leadership transition.

In 2013, Lord served as the new Executive Director of the Emergency Family Assistance Association in Boulder, CO to lead the organization’s strategic planning process.  In 2009, Dr. Lord became the 5th president of Naropa University and led the multi-year plan to restructure the entire University and enhance its academic profile.

Rooted in social justice, Lord has integrated his meditation practice as a Christian committed to blending eastern and western traditions while cultivating spirituality in education.  In 2017, he made a two-year commitment to coordinate monthly service trips to Houston, Texas in response to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.  Lord has previously led many service trips to places in need, including Kenya, Nicaragua, and Sierra Leone.

All right my friends. It’s time to wrap this up. This is a big week for me. David and I are going to be spending time over at our storage unit organizing the material we moved over there last October when we closed down our old studio. So yes, I will be looking at the pieces of the St. Hildegard exhibit as well as the set of Feathers On The Breath of God and then of course all the supplies from Tap Into Transformation. Remember the hula skirts?!

The question I will be living with as I organize is: “How can this material be useful going forward?” I will let you know what answers come in!

In the mean time, I am sending each and every one of you so much love. Do join us on May 5th. You will experience great joy and inspiration for your journey.

In Viriditas,
Jeannine

Dear Viriditas Community,

Learning is a JOY in itself

I have felt such joy in recent weeks as I prepare for the St. Hildegard classes I am teaching. I am learning so much more about St. Hildegard and how to incorporate her Wisdom into my life in recent weeks. One of the gifts of teaching something more than once is we get to fine-tune things as we go along. This has been true of St. Hildegard’s recipes. As many of you know, I am a huge fan of her Joy Cookies. I recently made them again for the Healing With St. Hildegardgroup sessions and tweaked the recipe to make it more healthy substituting cane sugar with coconut sugar. Mmmmm….and the sweet fragrances of the healing spices (nutmeg, cinnamon and clove) always sooth and strengthen my being when I make them.

If you would like to soak in some of this joy and strength, join me at my Viriditas Home Studio at 800 Zamia Avenue in Boulder for the Healing With St. Hildegard sessions. What are your creative dreams? Would you like some support to make them happen? Join us on the first Saturday of each month from 3:30-5 pm. Sign-up here. Dates for the upcoming sessions are: May 5th, June 2nd, July 7th. You can also join me at the Fox Institute in Boulder for a whole week of St. Hildegard classes in May! (see below for details).

Also check out my latest blog: “One Step at a Time … Yes, You Can” to get inspiration and strength to bring those things your intuition tells you to bring out into the world – to benefit the health and wellbeing of others.

One of my dear friends, Carol Bennington is bringing her amazing healing gifts out into the world. Carol has been using and teaching others about flower essences for two decades. She is a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner (BFRP) and one of a dozen Bach International Education Program (BIEP) Instructors in the United States, the courses approved by the Bach Centre in the UK. She teaches their introductory and advanced courses. AND she recently moved to Boulder! Check out her flyer. If I were not getting ready to teach my St. Hildegard classes, I would be in her class.

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras
The mantras that I share in the audios in my Free Healing Library are sung in the language of Sanskrit. Sanskrit is considered a divine language – a language of the gods. Its spiritual light shines through its sound and form.

It’s said that Sanskrit was given to the ancient Rishis (sages) and spoken by the enlightened beings of that time who passed the language to their students.

The word, Sanskrit, actually means “well or completely formed, purified, refined, polished.” The meaning of each letter in the Sanskrit alphabet is created by its sound and is considered a bija, or seed mantra. The effect of the mantra depends on proper pronunciation of the sound.

Today, we can still use Sanskrit to connect with the Divine. The sound vibration of Sanskrit can bring balance to the seven chakras, remove negativities from the mind, and bring healing to the physical body.

While chanting a Sanskrit mantra, your body relaxes and your mind becomes calm. Your head and your heart connect to your body. Energy flows to the process of restoring of your body, mind, and health back to wholeness. Back to balance which is our natural state.

Join me in chanting a mantra for the root chakra. You can access it by joining my Free Healing Library  Here are the words in Sanskrit:

Om gung ga-nay-shah-ya na-ma-ha

You may want to put the recording on your iPhone and listen to it during the day, whenever you feel any fears come up. Feel free to contact me if you want to do this and don’t know how. I will send you instructions or walk you through how to do it on the phone. Before bed, listen to it one more time and be sure NOT to chant along (or you may not be able to sleep). Allow Divine Presence to dissolve any fears you are holding.

In my guidebook, How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras, you will learn 7 short Sanskrit mantras using an audio recording and guidance on how to pronounce each mantra. I’ll explain the meaning of each mantra and why the sounds of each have healing potential.

Each mantra can remind us that we are already whole, as part of the Divine.  Each one supports us in returning to the state of wholeness, of balance.

The entire guidebook for healing all 7 chakras through the chanting of mantras will be coming out this Spring!

Don’t miss out on this SPECIAL EVENT at the Fox Institute  –

“Thomas Merton: A Prophet for Our Times”
An Evening with Rev. Matthew Fox

Thomas Merton (1915-1968) was one of the great spiritual writers and mystic-prophets of the twentieth century. From the time of his conversion at the shrine of the Black Madonna in Cuba in 1940 to his untimely martyrdom in Bangkok for opposing the war in Vietnam in 1968, his spirituality evolved profoundly. He journeyed deeply from being very much a dualistic monk from 1940-1957 to being a prophetic leader leading out a creation spirituality path under the influence of Zen master D.T. Suzuki and Meister Eckhart beginning in 1958.

Monday, April 16th, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, First Congregational Church of Boulder

Tickets start at $15 and are available through EventBrite here or on the Fox Institute Facebook page here .

Also Join us for “Inner Greening and Growing,” an inspiring Intensive at the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality May 14-18, 2018

Seminar: Deep Ecology and Theology of the Land taught by Marvin Anderson, PhD

There is no greater challenge facing humanity—indeed, no greater issue of justice—than climate change. This class will equip students with a constructive analysis and hopeful response to climate change and the ecological crisis by way of two complementary philosophical and theological worldviews: deep ecology and theology of the land. Drawing on Creation Spirituality and the biblical, ecofeminist, Native North American, African-American, and agrarian paradigms in particular, students will be challenged to find ways to identify with and enter into the “pain and suffering of the land.” They will reflect on how significant events or personal traumatic experiences of environmental and/or agricultural degradation have: 1) triggered their crisis of faith and/or environmental conscience, and 2) called them as leaders to work on behalf of earth healing and environmental justice in their own local communities.

*This course fulfills the Contemporary Issues Student (see below)

Seminar: The Mystic Hildegard taught by Jeannine Goode-Allen, DMin

This course begins with an immersion in St. Hildegard’s Journey through the Senses, an exhibit that shows the life and work of this powerful mystic. Students will also read and discuss the content of the very first biography written about St. Hildegard in the twelfth century. Students will then explore St. Hildegard’s theological writings and illuminations as well as her medical texts. Some of St. Hildegard’s remedies will be available for sampling. The class will then take a look at St. Hildegard’s relationship with her world and key people in her life. The class will conclude with an exploration of how students can use St. Hildegard as an inspiration in their own lives.

Art as Meditation: Nature Writing  taught by Susan Coppage Evans, DMin

Through a process of listening and responding, students will participate in writing exercises that deepen their relationship with nature and build a repertoire of expression that facilitates mindfulness, interconnection and increased awareness. Listening to readings from nature writers and poets such as Terry Tempest Williams, Mary Oliver, Scott Russell Sanders, Edward Abby and others, responding to elements of nature itself, and listening to one’s own voice and experience will facilitate one’s own creative writing and personal explorations.

Art as Meditation: Engaging Hildegard’s Music, Art and Herbs taught by Jeannine Goode-Allen, DMin

In this course we will use reading, music, guided imagery, St. Hildegard’s Illuminations and Healing Remedies as well as movement, to create a meditative connection with St. Hildegard and her life’s work. In this space of deep connection, students will access their deepest creative selves and from this space they will express their souls in a variety of artistic mediums: water color painting, drawing, singing, movement, journaling and finally constructing their own model buildings using a whole variety of materials (i.e. popsicle sticks, clay, feathers, paper, ornaments, miniature toys, to name just a few!). As the students share the creative process as well as their creations with each other during the week we will be forming a very intimate community of creative powerhouses!

Individuals can take this Intensive either as a degree student or lifelong learners enhancing their professional and personal lives through continuing education.
