Dear Viriditas Community,

This week I am going to write about something that is very near and dear to my heart. I am going to share The 5 Healing Benefits of Art as a Meditative Practice with you.

As some of you know I have experienced some profound healings over the years. I healed a congenital heart condition. I overcame debilitating panic attacks. I healed a pelvis that was frozen in pain. Art as a Meditative Practice has been the foundation of all of these healings.

Think back to a moment when you have created something – created anything at all. Something where you were fully immersed in the moment in time, away from all other distractions.

How did you feel?

From where were you inspired?

What seemed to want to express itself through you?

As creator, as artist, a vibrant flow of energy flows through your whole body. You know you are part of something greater.

The Divine flow that moves you needs to come to earth, in physical form. To express itself in form through you, the artist.

Meister Eckhart says it beautifully, “Whatever I want to express in its truest meaning must emerge from within me and pass through an inner form. It cannot come from outside to the inside but must emerge from within.”

Fueled with the breath of inspiration from within, you, the artist, begin to paint, sing a song, move in dance, write words, cook a delicious meal or use other materials for expression in creating.

The outer world of daily tasks and the chatter in your mind both disappear, and your focus comes to the task before you.

You can feel the call from within, and you know it’s time to take action.

So, you begin.

You lose track of what’s outside in the world – schedules, tasks, and time. Your thoughts dissolve. This vibrant creative force infuses your whole being. You feel fully alive. And joyfully engaged.

Your process may be smooth and flow easily at times. It may be bumpy and chaotic at other times. It may move quickly. Or slowly.

But, it’s not time for judgment or critique. Nor for thinking. This is the time for presence in the moment. Surrendering to the process and that which moves you from within.

And when your creative moment is done for that day, you are pleasantly drained, for you feel complete. You are grateful. And now satisfied, you rest peacefully.

The sweet nectar of the Divine has been brought to Earth through you.

Creating art, when focusing on the process and not product, can help us to access a meditative state, tapping into a deeper and quieter part of ourselves. A place of inner stillness without the busyness of the mind.

Here we can enter a feeling of flow and freedom, free of judgment, separation, and physical boundaries. A space without limits. A space for self-discovery and expression.  An opportunity for healing.

Human beings are naturally creative.  It is part of our nature.

And being creative brings us back to this state – our true nature.

Our true nature that brings us to a place of balance and a place of health.

When was the last time you engaged in art in a way that created a meditative state? Too long?

Maybe you don’t think of yourself as an artist?  The good news is you don’t have to!  You are a creator – one who creates out of the materials that long to be used for creation.

As human beings, we are naturally creative.

You may be pleasantly surprised to discover how much art you have inside of you. Yearning to be discovered and come out in the world.

Which art calls to you today?

  • Music
  • Dance
  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Clay/Pottery
  • Weaving
  • Writing
  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • Using objects – beads, glass, jewelry
  • Something else?

As you engage in art, in creating, energy begins to flow. For energy flows toward creativity.

And where energy flows, a powerful healing force can arise.  For yourself. And for the world.

How can art be a meditative practice in your life? So you can….

1.   Enter into self-discovery and self-expression.
2.   Step out of the busyness of the day and the mind, to a state of presence.
3.   Engage in a creative process with flow and freedom.
4.   Connect with the Divine through inspiration.
5.   Begin the flow of a powerful healing force.

“Creativity is not a solitary movement. This is its power. Whatever is touched by it, whoever hears it, sees it, senses it, knows it, is fed. That is why beholding someone else’s creative word, images, idea, fills us up, and inspires us to our own creative work. A single creative act has the potential to feed a continent. One creative act can cause a torrent to break through stone.” – Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Don’t hesitate… Spend even five minutes today creating something out of the depths of your unique soul. I guarantee you won’t regret it! And neither will the rest of the world!

And then send me a little note telling me about your creation!

Jeannine

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

My last week has been personally challenging with several unexpected events and also excruciating nerve pain in my arm that resurfaced from a past injury.  It’s moments like these that I am so grateful for my spiritual practice of mantra chanting. This past week, I have regularly relied on the mantras for Ganesh for power and for Shiva to remind myself that all of life is a blessing.  Chanting these two mantras has given me tremendous strength and comfort, even as I journey around town to see specialists to look at my arm.

These Sanskrit mantras for the chakras are a spiritual treasure chest. Each mantra is a beautiful gem with its own unique healing properties. Once you integrate the mantras into your life as a spiritual practice, they can support you throughout your whole life.

My guidebook, How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras, will be available to you soon. In it, you will learn about these 7 gems including guidance on how to pronounce each mantra. I’ll explain the meaning of each one and why the sounds of each have healing potential.

Last call to join me for an immersion into Engaging Hildegard’s Music, Art and Herbs during the week of May 14th – May 18th!

Is there an area of your life where you are seeking healing and/or transformation? I will be guiding students in meditative practices using excerpts from St. Hildegard’s personal letters and medical writings. Immersed in the healing power of St. Hildegard’s writings, students will write a dialogue with St. Hildegard exploring an area of their own lives where they are seeking healing and/or transformation.

Give yourself the gift of connecting to this transformative community that is the Fox Institute!

The Hildegard class is now paired with the seminar: Deep Ecology and Theology of the Land taught by Marvin Anderson. Marvin is one of the most courageous and heart warming educators I know. You will love him. I myself will be taking his class as well as my sister, Nicole, who is flying in from New York City to join me for the entire week.

Register for this intensive today!

This five-day Intensive costs $1770. I have been gifted $550 scholarships available to new students (degree or lifelong learners). If you are interested in one of those scholarships, please contact me right away at 720-308-6782. I would love to have you join us!

Dr. Stuart C. Lord named the Interim President of the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality

The Fox Institute is stepping into its next phase of growth, and David and I are greatly looking forward to working with our new president! Here is the press release announcing this wonderful news. I invite you to read about this extraordinary man.

The Board of Directors of the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality recently announced the appointment of Dr. Stuart C. Lord as its Interim President who will step into his role starting on May 1, 2018.

“I am excited to work with the Fox Institute and am deeply committed to the marriage of Eastern and Western traditions so that, together, we may cultivate contemplation into action!”  Dr. Lord said. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to advance the mission of the Institute as we inspire courageous, transformative leadership in all of our students.”

Dr. Stuart C. Lord is an American educator and academic specializing in leadership and ethics, organizational development, diversity and inclusion, spirituality in education, and academic governance.

Currently, Lord serves as CEO of Delta Developmental, a firm in Boulder, CO, specializing in leadership development, curriculum design, organizational assessment, and consulting. In 2015, Dr. Lord was appointed Chief Deputy to the President of Wheelock College to advise the president and assist in the college’s leadership transition.

In 2013, Lord served as the new Executive Director of the Emergency Family Assistance Association in Boulder, CO to lead the organization’s strategic planning process.  In 2009, Dr. Lord became the 5th president of Naropa University and led the multi-year plan to restructure the entire University and enhance its academic profile.

Rooted in social justice, Lord has integrated his meditation practice as a Christian committed to blending eastern and western traditions while cultivating spirituality in education.  In 2017, he made a two-year commitment to coordinate monthly service trips to Houston, Texas in response to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.  Lord has previously led many service trips to places in need, including Kenya, Nicaragua, and Sierra Leone.

All right my friends. It’s time to wrap this up. This is a big week for me. David and I are going to be spending time over at our storage unit organizing the material we moved over there last October when we closed down our old studio. So yes, I will be looking at the pieces of the St. Hildegard exhibit as well as the set of Feathers On The Breath of God and then of course all the supplies from Tap Into Transformation. Remember the hula skirts?!

The question I will be living with as I organize is: “How can this material be useful going forward?” I will let you know what answers come in!

In the mean time, I am sending each and every one of you so much love. Do join us on May 5th. You will experience great joy and inspiration for your journey.

In Viriditas,
Jeannine

Dear Viriditas Community,

Doctor of the Soul Group Event: Unleash Your Creativity

The Viriditas Home Studio Tap Temple will be opening its doors to all of you this coming May 5th! David and I are greatly looking forward to the next Doctor of the Soul group event, Unleash Your Creativity. We will be tap dancing, singing and drawing all in one afternoon! We’ll find inspiration from the incredible lives of St. Hildegard, the Nicholas Brothers and M.C. Richards.

Never heard of M.C. Richards? She was an inspiring poet, potter, educator and painter. Check out these words of wisdom from this amazing woman: “Every person is a special kind of artist and every activity is a special art. An artist creates out of the materials of the moment, never again to be duplicated. This is true of the painter, the musician, the dancer, the actor; the teacher; the scientist; the business man; the farmer – it is true of us all, whatever our work, that we are artists so long as we are alive to the concreteness of a moment and do not use it to some other purpose.” – M.C. Richards

M.C. celebrated creativity in all of it forms. Find out more about this amazing woman in my blog post this week: M.C. Richards: An Inspiring Creative Spirit.

On May 5th, my husband, David Sharp, and I will offer a supportive space for you to explore your creative spirit. We will supply every thing you need including the tap shoes. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED. Come with a curious mind, open heart, and desire for creative exploration. Register HERE.

You’ll leave feeling empowered and energized to be creative in your life’s journey. As long as we are creating, we keep growing, developing, and evolving, as individuals and as a community.

Join David and me at our Viriditas Home Studio at 800 Zamia Ave. in Boulder on May 5th from 3:30-5 pm for some FUN. Sign-up here.

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

In my (soon to be released!) guidebook, How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras, you will learn 7 short Sanskrit mantras using an audio recording and guidance on how to pronounce each mantra. I’ll explain the meaning of each mantra and why the sounds of each have healing potential.

I share below an excerpt from the guidebook of an amazing experience my husband had with the Lakshmi mantra for the throat chakra. David writes:

“Something profound and very unexpected happened to me after the Doctor of the Soul class Jeannine taught in the summer of 2017 that focused on the mantra chant for Lakshmi for the throat chakra. I play the key board for these events.

Lakshmi is associated with the throat chakra. I spend a great deal of my time using my throat as a singer and speaker. I sing with a band called Mass Hipsteria – the hottest horn band in the Denver metro area. We play all of the greatest dance songs from the 60’s to the present day. At 61 years of age, I am the lead male singer of this band.

As I drove to the performance venue that evening after playing at the Doctor of the Soul event, I began singing in the car, warming up. I noticed that my voice seemed particularly flexible while I was warming up. It was warming up easily. I didn’t really take special notice of it. I just was grateful given the limited time I had before show time. My throat seemed to feel really good, and I appreciated it.

As the band soon opened the show and I began to sing, my voice sounded really good — even to me!”

Your can find out what happened next in this story in the entire guidebook for healing all 7 chakras that will be coming out this Spring! Listen to the Lakshmi mantra for the throat chakra now in my Free Healing Library on the Doctor of the Soul website HERE.
