Dear Viriditas Community,
I hope you have enjoyed learning about St. Hildegard’s life through the eyes of two monks of her time. I found that translating the very first biography that was ever written about St. Hildegard renewed and deepened my connection to her. I gained strength and an even deeper love for her as an example of powerful faith and courage.
As we begin the New Year, I am going to be offering a series of meditations based on her theological works: Scivias. I invite you to experience the Wisdom that came through her and let it transform your life. As always I welcome your comments and questions. I will be sending out one meditation per week. I encourage you to practice the meditation every day for one week and keep a journal of your experience. I have created a recording of my voice reading this text with some beautiful background music. (If you would like me to send you this recording, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your email address, and I will send it to you.)
To support your meditative journey I would like to invite you to create an altar. Below is a photo of an altar I have created. On my altar you will see a plant, a candle, some sacred objects I love (incuding my tap shoes!) I also have some art work I am working on as well as some sacred texts. Near by I have a CD player and some favorite inspirational CDs. And last but not least a comfortable seat! The most important thing when creating an altar is to bring in beauty and those items that speak to your soul and help you to feel the presence of St. Hildegard and the Divine. So make an altar and send me a picture!
St. Hildegard has so much to give each and every one of us, and I am greatly looking forward to exploring what these gifts are for us during the upcoming year.
May St. Hildegard inspire and hold the journey ahead,
