Dear Viriditas Community,

Happy Easter my dear ones! Can you feel the “resurrection energy” in the air these days?

As I prepare for the upcoming St. Hildegard classes, I have once again been pondering the relationship between St. Hildegard and Volmar of St. Disibodenberg.

What a treasure it is when you have a dear friend who walks with you on your journey through life. Someone who supports and loves you. Who encourages you and gives you guidance. Someone who recognizes your greatness and lifts you up when you have self-doubt or fear, so that you can be an active and contributing part of community, sharing your divine gifts.

St. Hildegard had such a confidant, friend, and mentor in her life that supported her in following her divine calling, even when she felt incapable of doing so at times. Discover more about this friend in my blog post this week, The Gift of a Friend on the Journey of Life.

Would you like more support in your life? Come join our community and be inspired by St. Hildegard’s life and her words of wisdom for us in contemporary times. To recognize your greatness and move beyond self-doubt, within a supportive community. Healing with St. Hildegard classes start soon!

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

While developing your practice at home with chanting mantras, remember, saying affirmations inwardly (or outwardly, if you are able) throughout the day can support you in your work on healing a specific chakra.

Affirmations and any “I” statements that we make are potent and powerful words. I am, I feel, I have… these statements put into motion energetic forces to begin the creation of whatever follows these words. We CAN choose what we believe and think about ourselves. And what we say inwardly or outwardly about ourselves. We don’t need to perpetuate limiting beliefs or criticism about ourselves that we may have taken on in the past. We can change these, starting today.

I encourage you, choose positivity. Choose health. Choose your highest and best self. Choose “I” statements that align with these thoughts.

Some “I” statements for balancing your root chakra that you may find beneficial throughout your day.

I feel deeply rooted in Divine Presence

I am grounded, stable, and standing on my own two feet

I feel safe and secure

I have what I need

I trust myself

I trust in the goodness of life

Interested in a list of positive affirmations for balancing all of your chakras? The entire guidebook for healing all 7 chakras will be coming out this Spring!

Dear Viriditas Community,

Happy first day of SPRING!!!

I’m counting the days until the launch of the series of classes on Healing with St. Hildegard that are starting very soon in my new Viriditas Home Studio.  Watch this video to learn more about how this class can support you in becoming your best self through the wisdom of St. Hildegard. In this year’s classes, we’ll deepen our work with St. Hildegard’s music and use it as a springboard to experience other aspects of her work.

In the mid 12th century, St.Hildegard recognized the health benefits of many herbs and spices and shared a basic recipe for ancient biscuits or cookies. Find out more about the healing spice in this recipe in my blog post this week – The Healing Spice that Inspired St. Hildegard’s Joy Cookies.

We’ll get a chance to try this recipe in my upcoming series of classes on Healing with St. Hildegard. I hope you can join us! Now’s the time to sign-up to receive the discount for the class on April 7th.

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

While developing your practice at home with chanting mantras to heal your chakras, you can also deepen your work through artistic and movement activities. They will help you access and express the yearnings of your soul for healing and growth. I strongly recommend them!

Meister Eckhart says it beautifully when he writes, “Whatever I want to express in its truest meaning must emerge from within me and pass through an inner form. It cannot come from outside to the inside, but must emerge from within.”

In working with the root chakra, invoking the Hindu god, Ganesh, you can explore the movement of the elephant, as an animal in all of its glory. Take some time to look at photos of elephants or a film that shows how they move. Watch how their large legs carry them on the earth, how their trunk helps them engage, and how their huge ears serve them.

Close your eyes and imagine what it is like to be an elephant upon the earth. How to move, travel, eat, and interact. Open your eyes and begin to move like an elephant.

As you become more at ease with this movement, you can add in the chant Om Gam Ganeshaya Namaha.

I personally have greatly benefited from this activity. It fills me with strength, confidence and powerful joy.

This activity is just one of many that I describe in my upcoming guidebook for healing all 7 chakras which will be coming out this Spring!

Dear Viriditas Community,

Hail all you magnificent artists and prophets!

David and I had a spectacular experience with our first class: Introduction to Creation Spirituality at the Fox Institute. It was as if we had a divine appointment with each participant! One of the beautiful parts of the program for students is the holistic approach of working both sides of their brains (and bodies), right and left. Each day combines body prayer, seminar, art as meditation, process group and a break during the day for a delicious meal.

In our recent class, I gave an exercise inspired by MC Richards. David and I chose random objects from our home. Using these objects, the students let the material speak to them and then, as a group, they created something artistic together using these objects. What a beautiful experience unfolded before our eyes that also resulted in the forming of a strong community within the class.

Want to join together in community to deepen your spiritual work? My next class will be at my Viriditas Home Studio and will focus on the wisdom that St. Hildegard shares for our current times.

St. Hildegard, even in the 12th century, called to the people and urged them to awaken. To awaken to the Divine that was living in the world. To fall in love with it and to passionately take actions to create health and healing in the world.

“We shall awaken from our dullness and rise vigorously toward justice.  If we fall in love with creation deeper and deeper, we will respond to its endangerment with passion.”  – St. Hildegard of Bingen

The Divine Word, or Divine Wisdom, is alive and radiant in all beings. It calls and urges human beings to implement their Viriditas, their greening power, from this fertile ground.

“The Word is living, being, spirit, all verdant greening, all creativity.”  – St. Hildegard of Bingen

Learn more about the Divine Word from St. Hildegard in my blog post this week, 3 Ways to Discover the Divine in Your Life, Inspired by St. Hildegard.

Do you hear this call? The call to contribute, to create within the world? To bring forth your divine gifts into the world.

“All creation is awakened, called, by the resounding melody, God’s invocation of the Word.”  – St Hildegard of Bingen

We’ll dive deeper into this work to support you in bringing forth your gifts into the world in my upcoming Healing with St. Hildegard classes. Join me to discover more of the wisdom of St. Hildegard for our modern times at my Viriditas Home Studio at 800 Zamia Ave. in Boulder.

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

Prayer can be one of the powerful components to our spiritual practice. Prayer is our way of calling upon the Divine or a spirit guide and asking for support. Initiated by you, prayer is an active request for guidance that you put forth.

When we compare prayer to meditation – prayer is communication to Spirit from you. Whereas, meditation is silencing the mind to create space for Spirit to speak to us – either in the moment or through our intuition in our daily lives.

Here I share a prayer that can be used in balancing your root chakra, clearing any obstacles that are preventing you from feeling safe and secure in the world.

“Good morning, Divine Presence, you the Power behind all Power.

Today I ask you to help me change the way I think and feel around my security and my survival. No matter what challenge shows up today, help me connect to my root chakra and become aware that you are with me and that I am not alone.

Whenever I feel internally unsettled today, help me remember that my strength lies in YOU. Show me a spiritual way to move through every situation that arises today and give me the strength to carry it out.”

This is a wonderful prayer to use in the morning and can be followed by the mantra chant for Ganesh to support you in your day.

The entire guidebook for all 7 chakras complete with prayers to help balance all the chakras will be coming out this Spring!

Dear Viriditas Community,

Whew! Last week was a big one. David and I taught our first class at the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality. When we finished the week and Saturday morning rolled around, I could hear St. Hildegard lovingly whispering in my ear: “Moderation, dear Jeannine, remember moderation is the queen of virtues.” And so, on Saturday and Sunday, I rested…seeking alone time in nature and napping.

For a closer look at how moderation helps us find balance in our lives, take a look at my blog post this week on St. Hildegard’s Words of Wisdom on Creating Balance for Health.

One of the gifts of last weekend is we had some warm weather. How my body rejoiced being outside, soaking in the sound of the birds chirping away. The daffodils in my garden are starting to peak out of the ground, as is the parsley!

St. Hildegard gave us the gift of the concept of Viriditas that can be described as the divine life force that lives and breathes within all living beings. This potent force is full of vitality. It makes all things grow, expand, and thrive.

For St. Hildegard, the Divine permeated all of life on Earth – every plant, every animal, every stone, every human being.  And Earth, as mother, is the womb of creation and of nourishment.

“The Earth is at the same time mother. She is mother of all that is natural, mother of all that is human. She is mother of all, for contained in her are the seeds of all. The Earth of human kind contains all moistness, all verdancy, all germinating power. It is in so many ways fruitful. All creation comes from it. Yet it forms not only the basic raw material for humankind, but also the substance of the incarnation of God’s son.” – St. Hildegard of Bingen

St. Hildegard was disturbed by what she saw as the lack of care of our Mother Earth by people, even in the 12th century, and spoke out courageously and directly to the people.

Now in the people that were meant to be green there is no more life of any kind. There is only shriveled barrenness. The winds are burdened by the utterly awful stink of evil, selfish goings-on. Thunderstorms menace. The air belches out the filthy uncleanliness of the peoples. The earth should not be injured! The earth must not be destroyed!” – St. Hildegard of Bingen

And she called us, as guardians of all of creation, to rise up and take action to protect Mother Earth. “We…are more dependent on the rest of creation than any other species…. We are the guardian of creation.”

“We shall awaken from our dullness and rise vigorously toward justice.  If we fall in love with creation deeper and deeper, we will respond to its endangerment with passion.”

“Glance at the sun. See the moon and the stars. Gaze at the beauty of earth’s greenings. Now, think. What delight God gives to humankind with all these things. All nature is at the disposal of humankind. We are to work with it. For without it we cannot survive.”  –St. Hildegard of Bingen

How to Bring Life to Your Chakras: 7 Healing Mantras

In creating balance in your own life, keep in mind the health of your chakras. Chakras are part of our subtle or energy body. This invisible energy is the vital life force that keeps us vibrant, healthy, and alive.

They work to regulate the flow of energy in our body so that we can have a variety of experiences within our body – mental, creative, sexual, emotional, and more. Actions that we repeat, whether we are conscious of them or not, create pathways in our chakras. These patterns or habits – mental, emotional or behavioral – may be unhealthy or healthy for us in life.

Clearing or balancing our chakras can help to dissolve energy pathways that do not serve us and encourage new ones to flow that do serve us. Leading us to a deeper purpose and meaning in our lives. Ahhh……..health.

The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, supports us in being grounded or rooted. To have a sense of safety and security in life on the Earth.

It is the Foundation of Life. The wisdom of Mother Earth energy within us.

Being rooted in the wisdom of Mother Earth gives us a palpable sense of being rooted in the Divine. When our root chakra is functioning well we know that the Divine is our true source of safety and security. We can grow from there within the eternal Light of the Divine to become our highest selves.

In balancing the root chakra, we can call upon Ganesh with his wisdom, courage, and strength to remove any fear that is holding us back from feeling safe and secure within our lives. You can find the audio recording of the Ganesh mantra to use for chanting here.

The entire guidebook for all 7 chakras will be coming out this Spring!
