Meditation #5: The Signs of the Prophets

From: The Fifth Vision of the First Part, Scivias

Sister_Hiltrud

One of the prophets in my life: Sister Hiltrud

As you take a few deep and slow breaths sitting in front of your altar, I invite you to close your eyes and imagine being surrounded by a very bright and pure cloud. Then let the following words from St. Hildegard of Bingen open your heart and mind:

“Imagine a womanly image, pale-colored from the top of her head right down to her waist, and dark-colored from her waist right down to her feet. Her feet are bloody-colored and have a very bright and pure cloud around them. She does not, however, have eyes. She has her hands placed under her sleeves. She is standing close to an altar which is before the eyes of God, but she is not touching the altar. Abraham is standing by her heart, and Moses by her breast. The remaining prophets are standing by her belly, and they are showing their individual signs. They are also admiring the beauty of the church. The woman is indeed of great size, just like some tower of some city. She has a circle which resembles dawn upon her head.”

Questions:

1. Is there anything you don’t want to look at in your life right now?

2. Is there anything you are hiding under your sleeves?

3. What would happen if you touched the altar?

4. What prophets are in your life, and what are their signs?

I have created a recording of my voice reading this text with some beautiful background music. (If you would like me to send you this recording, feel free to email me at info@viriditasllc.com with your email address, and I will send it to you.)

Meditation #4: The Tent of Goodness

From: The Fourth Vision of the First Part, Scivias

The goodness of God a rainbow over the Rhine River

As you take a few deep breaths sitting in front of your altar, I invite you to imagine being surrounded by a very great and peaceful brightness which is similar to a flame. This brightness has a lot of eyes in it, and it has four corners turned to the four parts of the world. Now let the following words from St. Hildegard perfume your mind and heart:

“I ought to have a tent the size of five square stones. My tent ought to be decorated with the sun and with bright stars. The setting sun and the setting stars should not be bright in my tent, but angelic glory should be. The foundation of my tent ought to be made of topaz, and its structure should be made all of gems. Its stairs ought to be made of crystal and its floor should be gold. I ought to be a companion of the angels since I am the living breath which God sent into dry dust. I ought to know and understand God.

But alas! My tent is full of eyes which are able to see everywhere, and it placed itself in the north. Ach, ach! In the north, I have been attacked and plundered with the eyes and with the joy of knowledge, with my garment completely torn. I was removed from my rightful place, and I was led into another place which lacked any beauty and honor where I was subjected to the worst servitude. Those who had seized me, struck me with blows and they made me eat with the pigs.”

Questions:

1. When and how have you felt the goodness of God?

2. Can you remember what it felt like?

I have created a recording of my voice reading this text with some beautiful background music. (If you would like me to send you this recording, feel free to email me at info@viriditasllc.com with your email address, and I will send it to you.)

Viriditas Newsletter, February

Dear Viriditas Community,

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

You guessed it, the theme for our February Tap Into Transformation was LOVE! Here is a photo of our tap dancers at the end of the evening. Take a good look and feel the love!

Tap Trans MJ group photo best

Our February Tap Into Transformation was also a tribute to Michael Jackson.  It was by far the most elaborate dance David has created for our group, and I so enjoyed this dance.  We all felt in part like Michael Jackson by the end of the evening!  Click here to watch the promo video David and I created and try some of the moves for yourself!

At the beginning of the evening, I invited folks to connect with the love in their hearts and then to listen to the following lyrics of Michael Jackson’s song, “Man In The Mirror”

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.

I then asked them to dance with this question in their hearts: “If you were to change one thing about yourself, what would it be?” After dinner, we watched and sang along with a clip of the movie “This Is It” where Michael Jackson sings “Man In The Mirror” to inspire us. I am always moved by the power of LOVE.

On the tap front I want to also mention that things are falling into place for David and me as we look forward to our workshop, Tap Into Power For Life on March 21 & 22nd. JGA-DS dunes As you may know David and I launched this workshop last year and tested it with two other people, Herb Rodriguez and Jan Rupp.

Here is what Jan and Herb said about the weekend:

“David and Jeannine, with incredible passion and talent, challenge us to transform our pain into power, moving through our blockages and trauma with grace and beauty.” – Jan Rupp, Co-author of “The 5-Minute Healer”

“David and Jeannine are very loving and accepting. With their encouragement, it allowed me to not only have a hell of a lot of fun, but also feel free to release inhibitions and safe to explore deeper parts of myself.” – Herb Rodriguez, Musician/Artist – Member of The Boulder Chorale

Jan, Herb, David and I spent the weekend together; each of us bringing a challenge in our lives that we wanted to transform. I brought a feeling of  “stuckness” in a piano composition I was writing. As we expressed this feeling of stuckness in the group in our tap shoes, with the help of ukuleles (thanks Herb!) we transformed the feeling of stuckness as a group. The final moment was when Jan Rupp gonged on my Tibetan singing bowl as the Elephant. I could feel the shift inside me. Now, a year later I have a recording of the completed composition as well as the sheet music.  I invite you to join us next month and see what can happen for you in a caring and tapping community. (Click here to find out more about this workshop.)

You can look forward to hearing my composition as the background music for one of the meditations I am creating this year inspired by the theological works of St. Hildegard of Bingen. I have now recorded three meditations and a community has formed to journey together this year with the meditations. Click here to listen to the first audio recording. As previously mentioned, you may find the texts of the meditations on my blog. (Click here to view the blog.)  If you’d like to receive a weekly audio recording please email me at info@viriditasllc.com. I rejoice as I receive the gifts of doing these meditations myself. So far, I have accessed deep gratitude as well as some clear guidance regarding next steps to take in my life. I invite you to contact me and join the community of people experiencing these meditations together. St. Hildegard has so many gifts to give us! The cost for the yearly meditation series is $120.00, and you will receive a weekly email with the meditation text as well as an audio recording. You can send a check made out to Viriditas Productions LLC to the following address: 800 Zamia Ave. Boulder, CO 80304.

In this month of Love, I will conclude with these loving words by St. Hildegard of Bingen.

Creation
is allowed
in intimate love,
to speak
to the Creator
as if to a lover.

Creation
is allowed
to ask
for a pasture,
a homeland.

Out of the Creator’s fullness,
this request is granted to creation.

Meditation #3: The Egg of the Universe

From: The Third Vision of the First Part, Scivius.

blog 3 image German village along the Rhine river German village along the Rhine river.

As you take a few deep breaths sitting in front of your altar, imagine the energy in your body flowing downward and into the Earth. Then let the following words from St. Hildegard touch your heart:

“Imagine a very large, round, and shady object. It is like an egg, with the top part narrower, the middle part fuller, and the lower part compressed. On the outer edge of this circular object, there is a bright flame which has a darker layer under it. Inside of the fire and darker layer is a globe of reddish fire which is so great that it lights up the entire inside of the circular object. Above the globe which is inside the circular object, there are three torches which in turn are inside of the fire that is on the outer edge of the circular object. Being inside this fire on the outer edge, these torches keep the fire from falling down upon the globe itself. The globe, however, lifts itself upward from time to time and more of the fire on the outer edge of the circular object rushes to meet it. At other times, the globe moves itself downward, and coldness comes to meet it. The globe of reddish fire removes itself from this coldness very quickly. Additionally, the fire on the outer edge of this circular object is being blown with a great turbulence. And the darker layer under it is also being blown, but by another turbulence which is moving about here and there inside this layer. Also inside this layer, there is a gloomy fire that is so horrible that I can not look at it. This gloomy fire is shaking this layer with all of its strength – full of sounds, storms, and very sharp stones that were both large and small. While this gloomy fire is making its sounds, the bright fire and the wind and the air on the outer edge are being shaken so that bright flashes anticipated those sounds of the gloomy fire. The fire of the outer edge understands the violence of the sounds of the gloomy fire.

Under the darker layer, there is the purest of air where I see that very large globe of reddish fire, having above itself those torches. The outer layer and the air restrains that globe so that I cam not go beyond them. And inside this purest of air, there are many clear spheres everywhere, upon which the globe of reddish fire shines its brightness. The globe of reddish fire sends out some of its fire now and then to these clear spheres, and then draws it back to itself. But from the purest of air a wind blows forward with its turbulence, spreading itself outward.

Further, inside the purest of air, I see some more air, but this air is full of water. This air had a white layer under itself, and this air – spreading out here and there – gives out moisture. It suddenly gathers itself together now and then, and sends forth rain with a great deal of thunder; then it sends itself out again. It gives forth a caressing rain with softness. But a certain wind also blows out its turbulence from this air.

In the middle of these various kinds of air, there is a dry globe of a very large size. This globe is surrounded by the various kinds of air so that it could not glide here and there. But occasionally the various kinds of air shake themselves in turn with the previously mentioned wind, and they make this dry globe move a little with their strength.

And between the north and east of the dry globe, I see a very great mountain, which is very dark towards the north and very light toward the east. Nevertheless, the light is not able to stretch out to the darkness nor is the darkness able to stretch out to the light.”

Questions:

1. What difficulties are you facing in your life?

2. How can these difficulties be transformed by the bright flashes of light, by the purest of air and by the caressing rain?

And as a reminder, I have created a recording of my voice reading this text with some beautiful background music. (If you would like me to send you this recording, feel free to email me at info@viriditasllc.com with your email address, and I will send it to you.)

Meditation #2: Virtues Rise Up To Help

From: The Second Vision of the First Part, Scivius.

St. H image blog #2

Before going into Meditation #2, I want to share part of my experience with Meditation #1.  One of the insights that came to me while considering the question: Who is contemptible to you in your life?… came as quite a surprise. The answer was me! I am contemptible to myself! I got in touch with the voices of excruciating self judgement that some times plague me… I also felt into how experiencing the Wisdom that came through St. Hildegard would be a way to calm those voices and that it was crucial for me to say YES to creating this meditation series with all my heart and soul.

And you? What happened for you as you journeyed through the week with Meditation #1? I would love to hear anything you wish to share with me.

Now for Meditation #2 on the Second Vision from Saint Hildegard’s theological text Scivias: Virtues Rise Up To Help

As you take a few deep breaths sitting in front of your altar, let the following words from St. Hildegard touch your heart:

“Imagine a very great multitude looking as if they are living torches. They are very bright, so that those who reflect the burning brightness take on a most serene brilliance. And behold a wide and deep lake appears. The lake has a mouth, like the mouth of a well, and it sends forth burning smoke with a great stink. Stretching out from their very foul smoke, there is a form with a deceptive appearance. This form breaths forth into a clear region a white cloud which contains a large number of stars in itself and which has sent forth down through itself the fair form of a man. And the cloud throws the form of the man out of itself. As a result, a very bright splendor fills the same region, making all the elements of the world, which have previously stood still in a great quietness, display horrible fears and turn into a very great restlessness.

And again I hear that one speaking: …For when the land is tilled with a great deal of labor, it brings forth a lot of fruitfulness. It is similar with the human race because after the fall of humanity, many virtues rose up to help… “

Questions:

1. Are you experiencing any fear or feelings of restlessness in your day to day life?

2. How has working through fear and/or restlessness made you a better human being?

I have created a recording of my voice reading this text with some beautiful background music. (If you would like me to send you this recording, feel free to email me at info@viriditasllc.com with your email address, and I will send it to you.)
