Abbot Bernhard of Clairvaux helps St. Hildegard / Der Abt Bernhard von Clairvaux hilft der Heilige Hildegard

Both English and German versions.

***

Abbot Bernhard tells the Pope to encourage St. Hildegard to write.

After the Pope heard this, he let the writings of St. Hildegard that had been brought to him from the monastery at St. Disibod, be presented before him. He held the writings with his own hands, and reading aloud presented them to the Archbishop, the Cardinals and all the clergy present. And when he announced the findings of the men he had sent to investigate the writings, he called on the hearts of all to praise the Creator and to cheer with sympathetic joy. Even Abbot Bernhard (bless his memory) was present there. He took the floor and asked the Pope, under the applause of all, that he not tolerate that such a bright shining light be covered by silence; instead he said that the Pope should confirm with his authority the blessing that the Lord wanted to reveal in His time. The venerable, wise and good Father of Fathers agreed with Abbot Bernhard. He sent the Holy Virgin an honorable letter in which he granted her permission in the name of Christ and of St. Peter, to make known everything that she knew through the Holy Spirit.  He encouraged her to write. He honored the site where she had been brought up with a document of congratulations addressed to the abbot and the brothers of the monastery.

Viriditas Newsletter, June

Dear Viriditas Community,

It’s June, it’s summertime, and this month I want to focus on happiness! When was the last time you were truly happy? What were you doing? Where were you? Who were you with?

David and I began the month with our June, Tap Into Transformation, which was a celebration of happiness. We wore white, I made home made ice cream, and David got the chocolate fondue fountain running so people could top their ice cream with warm chocolate. David and I (I kid you not) learned how to tap dance Bollywood style! Check out this promotional video we created and smile! (click here to view the video)

Curry & Kebob, a local Indian restaurant, did the catering. For those of you who live in Boulder and like Indian food you’ve got to check this place out! They’re on 28th St. not far from the Puddle Carwash. The food is delicious and affordable, and the family who runs it is a joy to interact with.

After we enjoyed our meal I invited folks to create a Sharpette (David’s fun form of poetry) about something in their lives that makes them happy.

Here are some of the Sharpettes that were written that night:

Water
Flows endlessly; From Heaven pours
Like from a bottle of San Pellegrino.

Toys
A lot of fun; A gift from God
Like a home for joys for both girls and boys.

Happiness
The Joy in Life; Freedom’s calling
Like the ecstatic Bliss of being one’s Self.

images

I invite you to create your own Sharpette about something that makes you happy.

Here’s how:
The first line is the word.
The second line defines or describes the word twice, 4 syllables each.
The third line paints a picture of the word in 10 or 11 syllables.

On some Sharpettes the 4th or 5th syllable of the third line will rhyme with the word itself. This can yield another insight into the word chosen.

When you’re done please send me your Sharpette! Everyone who sends theirs in will receive a little gift. (Be sure to include your mailing address with your Sharpette.)

It is with great happiness that I now announce the winner of last month’s contest to be the first person to email me the name of the country the African musicians in the video were from. Her name is Kristal Parks and within hours of sending the newsletter, Kristal responded with the correct answer, Nigeria.

For those of you who don’t know Kristal, she is the founder of an organization called Pachyderm Power. To quote Kristal, “Pachyderm Power’s passion and commitment is to protect awesome and magnificent elephants from abuse and death.” I met Kristal when I was performing Feathers On The Breath Of God in 2011. As most of you know, I have a deep connection to the elephant and donate the proceeds from the final performance of Feathers to Pachyderm Power. I want to one day join Kristal and the elephants in Africa. To learn more about what Kristal is doing with Pachyderm Power please visit her website. I have sent Kristal her prize which was a CD of some of my favorite marimba music. The name of the CD is Batanidzo and it is a compilation of songs played by Kutandara Center Youth Marimba Ensembles.

My happiest moment this past month was playing with our band, Knob Mentality at Shine Restaurant as part of the Kutandara Center Marimba Festival on June 1st. Here’s a photo from our performance and a link to enjoy a video clip as well!

JGA marimba

And so it is no wonder that this is the Sharpette I wrote for happiness this month:

Marimba
Wood singing Joy, from Africa
Like a very good friend waiting to jam.

Now for you African music buffs, check out this month’s video and see if you can guess which country this powerful and dynamic singer and dancer is from! For those of you who really want a challenge (Larry!), see if you can tell me what language she is singing in!

Hint: She is performing at Chautauqua in Boulder on June 28th! After seeing this video, I know those of you who are local will want to get tickets and join me and David on June 28th!

May happiness be ours!
Jeannine
